About Me
I am a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst with more than ten years of experience helping folks feel better and live more fulfilled lives. Choosing to start therapy can be a difficult decision, and many people deliberate about when to start and with whom. But once you begin, you will likely find that good therapy with the right therapist makes you happier, more fulfilled, and more effective in many aspects of your life. Exploring the possibility of coming to therapy is the first step in a life-transforming journey.
I believe strongly that the connection or “fit” between client and therapist is one of the most important ingredients in making therapy successful. As such, I conduct an initial phone consultation with all possible clients before meeting in my office. During that conversation, I will learn more about your concerns and you will get a sense of my style and approach. If you are interested in setting up an appointment after we speak, we will set up a first session in my private office in Union Square.
Though I work in a variety of ways, I have a special interest in working with those who are interested in the intensity and transformational power of psychoanalysis. In addition to psychoanalysis, I have studied multiple modalities of psychotherapeutic treatment including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, exposure and response prevention, parent management training, and structural family therapy. I commit to partnering with you to determine what approach is best suited to your needs and goals. Fundamentally, I believe that without a respectful, collaborative, and connected relationship between therapist and patient, little meaningful progress can be made.
I received my undergraduate education at Amherst College and received a Masters in Social Work from Hunter College. I completed postgraduate training at the Yale University Child Study Center and subsequently served on the clinical faculty there. More recently, I graduated from psychoanalytic training at The Institute for the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity (IPSS). I am a published author and educator, as well. You can learn more about this aspect of my practice here.
My professional interests are diverse. The core of my practice is about supporting your work through issues around depression, anxiety, stress, relationships, and feeling their daily lives are more meaningful. I have experience and training in work with individuals, couples, youth and children, families, and parents. Whatever your area of concern, I encourage you to contact me so that we can discuss how I might be able to be helpful.
